Introduction.
I dedicated this channel to my beloved 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi. The Ferrari ownership has always been a dream for me and in 2012, when prices were still acceptable that dream came through. When I bought the car I knew she needed some TLC someday. But I have driven the 308 until in 2018 the gearbox failed. Another dream of mine is restoring a classic and with the knowledge I could never afford a Ferrari dealer restoration I decided to do most of it in my own garage. In 2020 I found that the project was taking to long and I needed help completing. What happened after that you can find out in my video vlogs.
The Ferrari 308 series.
In 1975 de Ferrari 308 GTB was introduced at the Paris Motor Show. She had a 3 liter engine and her looks were based on the 246GT (Dino) and the 365 GT4 BB. Here body was made of fiberglass a material Ferrari’s costumers didn’t appreciate at that time. After just 808 models Ferrari started building metal 308’s in 1977. In that same year Ferrari introduced the spider (GTS) version of the 308.
Changing regulations forged Ferrari to change the four Marelli 40 DCNF carburetors for the Bosch K-Jetronic injection system. The result was a downgraded v8 called 308 GTBi/GTSi. The 308 now only had 214 horsepower instead of the 255 horses. This makes the injection version the least popular Ferrari of its time.
It took Ferrari 2 years to solve the loss of horsepower with the introduction of the quattrovalvole. She now had 240 horses of pleasure.
The GTS seemed to be the must popular version of the 308. Of the 12.343 308’s build only 4.339 were Berlinetta’s. While talking numbers, 1.743 GTSi’s were build in total.
